On the 6th November 2016 at 12.26pm, our daughter was brought into the world 12 weeks early by an emergency cesarean.

She weighed just 1lb 8Oz.

As soon as she was born she was rushed to the NICU (neonatal intensive care unit) at Ninewells, where she spent just over 8 weeks.

During this time, the staff and the medical equipment kept Layla alive and as time went on, helped her grow, progress, and become a healthy little baby.

The equipment in the unit doesn't come cheap. Most of it costs tens of thousands of pounds. And even the simple things like tiny nappies and feeding tubes all add up. The clothes which the unit happily dress the babies in are all donated.

We have been incredibly lucky and our little girl now weighs 4lb 10oz and is doing perfectly fine. This wouldn't have been possible without the overwhelming amount of support and hard work from all the staff in the unit.

Not everyone is as lucky as us, but we'd like to raise some money so that hopefully a few more people get their healthy baby at the end of this terrifying journey, and receive the same support and care that we did.

Rest assured however much we manage to raise, it will make a huge difference to a family in the NICU.
