Story
We are sadly having to once again ask for your help and support to stop the overdevelopment of South Wootton from a further 600 houses on the Knights Hill site.
Say no to 600 houses at Knights Hill and traffic deadlock
Large numbers of you kindly gave your support in March 2019 by attending the Planning Hearing giving a clear message to the Borough’s Planning Committee that this vast development at Knights Hill was unacceptable. As a result of this the Planning Committee unanimously voted to reject this Application. Sadly the developers are now challenging this decision which will be decided by a Public Enquiry.
The Enquiry will start on Tuesday January 14th and could be held for a total of 4 days. The first 3 days 14th, 15th & 16th January 2020 will be held at The Barn, Knights Hill Hotel. Should the Appeal run into a fourth day (Friday January 17th) this will be held at the Town Hall, King’s Lynn.
PLEASE HELP AGAIN. You are probably aware this development of 600 houses at Knights Hill is in addition to the 660 other houses in South Wootton which have already been granted approval by the Borough Council. If this development of 600 houses goes ahead there will be a total of 1260 additional houses - a staggering 70% increase on the current number of village dwellings.
Local resident numbers are likely to increase by 3000. More worryingly this will bring an additional 2000 cars to our already gridlocked roads and junctions making life extremely difficult for residents and commuters. These numbers are unsustainable. Our beloved Queen Elizabeth Hospital is in Special Measures. There has been closure of Doctors’ and Dentists’ Surgeries and several have closed their books to new patients. Schools are overcrowded with some pupils learning in portacabins.
Before adding these extra 2000 vehicles to the current queuing traffic we have junctions and roads heavily congested and at capacity. Already parts of King’s Lynn are suffering from the worst air pollution and emissions in the county. We must no longer ignore the damage and impact on the health of children and adults.
WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT IN 2 WAYS
It is essential we engage professionals to fight our case and fees are estimated at £6,500. We are asking all residents and commuters likely to be affected to donate a few pounds to help meet these costs.
There are 3 ways to donate.
- Via this Just Giving page
- By cheque made payable to Castle Rising Parish Council (please write on the back of the cheque ’KH Appeal Fund’) and send to
The Clerk, Castle Rising Parish Council, c/o The Estate Office, Castle Rising, King’s Lynn, Norfolk PE31 6DZ. If more convenient deliver to the South Wootton Parish Council Office.
- Or you may pay by online bank transfer to: Castle Rising Parish Council
Barclays Bank Account No: 40247243 Sort code: 20-46-65
Again, please reference ‘KH Appeal Fund’.
Castle Rising Parish Council are collecting funds for and on behalf of the 3 Parish Councils, South Wootton, North Wootton and Castle Rising.
Every penny raised will be used to fund this campaign and employ professionals so essential in challenging the developers’ expertly presented case.
Your attendance at the Planning Enquiry is essential to send a strong message to the Planning Inspector. Therefore we need as many people as possible to attend the Enquiry. We would be grateful for any time you can spare on Tuesday 14th, Wednesday 15th, Thursday 16th January at The Barn, Knights Hill Hotel. Should the Enquiry run into a fourth day Friday 17th this day only will be held at the Town Hall, King’s Lynn.
Timing is at the Inspectors' discretion. The first day of the Appeal is likely to run from 10am to 5pm. Subsequent days are likely to run from 9.30am to 5pm. On all days there will be a one hour lunch break from approximately 12.30pm.
We hope to get a full audience every day and it would help if you could use Mailchimp … listing the dates and hours convenient for you to attend. Failing this just turn up and support when you can spare the time.
Please help us to secure a better future for all. This is our ONLY OPPORTUNITY to FIGHT and STOP this destructive development to protect the quality of life and health of young and old alike.
The Borough Council DO NOT NEED THIS KNIGHTS HILL DEVELOPMENT. They have sufficient sites to meet their housing numbers. South Wootton is already struggling to cope. Please help us to protect our environment from this urban sprawl.
This campaign is fully supported by the Parish Councils of South Wootton, North Wootton, Castle Rising and several adjoining Parishes.

Say No To Knights Hill
4 years agoTHANK YOU to everyone who has supported No2KH so far - we have reached the 20% mark of our fundraising efforts. Even if the majority of households in South Wootton, North Wootton, and Castle Rising donated just a few pounds, we'd be well on our way to achieving our goal. Let's say "NO" to 600 houses and traffic deadlock.
