Man-made pollution in the world’s seas is increasing. By 2050 there will be more plastic than fish in our oceans.

Asociación Ondine's mission is to remove plastics from the ocean and to teach communities to make better choices for sustainable living. Their statement 'to enable the Balearic sea to recover its rich biodiversity and to thrive in harmony with a prospering, environmentally conscious and proactive local population', encourages development without the expense of the environment.

In June 2018 two women who are passionate about saving our seas took on the challenge of a lifetime to be the first people to circumnavigate Mallorca entirely by SUP (stand-up-paddleboard). Cat Friend (British, 28) and Valerie Bisbal (Spanish, 41) paddled the entire 555km coastline after months of planning and training; a journey that took 24 days. With kit in drybags strapped to their boards the two camped for the duration - leaving from and paddling back to Soller, on the North of the island. Support vehicles met them in certain spots for safety and to replenish supplies. The challenge was a test of physical and mental endurance.

The mission from Soller to Soller was to raise money and awareness for ocean pollution. The girls cleaned every beach they slept on and picked up rubbish as they paddled, documenting the ocean plastic crisis. All proceeds go directly to Asociación Ondine where it will be put into projects that combine science, local communities and conservation to protect and improve the marine ecosystems around the Balearic Islands.

Last year Asociación Ondine removed 2.2 tonnes of rubbish from Mallorca’s beaches and 600m of ghost nets from the surrounding seas. Thank you for your donations which help them to continue the good work.
