Story
In May 2017 Gemma Hummerstone and Lucy Witherspoon are aspiring to undertake a youth and sports development volunteer project to assist children in rural Fiji. To raise the £2,000 donation required by the charity, we are going to undertake the Three Peak Challenge.
Starting at 7am on Thursday the 13th of April, we will have 24hours to Climb Ben Nevis in Scotland (1345m), Scafell Pike in England (978m) and finally Mount Snowdon in Wales (1085m). In order to complete the challenge we require a minimum of 3 in the team, who will ascend all three peaks. We will be joined by Julie Witherspoon and Ken Hummerstone, aswell as a team of family members as our support team.
Over one third of this funding will be used directly to support the children in Fiji by supplying resources, helping to re-build and equip schools and supporting long term educational initiatives for children and local teachers.
Our Project supports a small charity, Think Pacific Foundation (1162190) who work in remote villages, where over one third of children grow up in poverty and where over 200 schools were damaged during Cyclone Winston in February 2016. For information on the charities achievements please visit www.thinkpacific.com.
During our project we will experience tough and challenging conditions as we volunteer to deliver a Government backed programme to inspire children living in hardship. We will be hosted by Fijian family, and working within a school, as well as immersing ourselves in the Fijian culture. We aim to gain deeper insight into the life of the developing world and use our skills we have gained through our education and extracurricular interests to make a personal difference to the children.
We would greatly appreciate any support that you are able to give us, to reach our goals, so we may make our ambition to volunteer on this project a reality.
Thank you in advance for your help.
