    Story

Saturday 27th August Tring parkrun will be celebrating its 100th parkrun. To mark this occasion I will be running 100 km ( 20 laps of the parkrun course). And by doing so I'm also hoping to raise money to fund a defibrillator for use by Tring parkrun in an emergency.

What is parkrun? parkrun is a free weekly timed 5km runs around the world. They are open to everybody, free and are safe and easy to take part in. Every parkrun is organised and managed by a bunch of eager volunteers from the local community.

Sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) happens around 140,000 times a year in the UK. Most SCAs are caused by coronary artery disease. Although very rare, SCA can also happen to healthy adults and young people with undiagnosed heart conditions. It is possible to survive a cardiac arrest if the person can be quickly treated with a defibrillator. Defibrillators are becoming increasingly available in public places. The machine detects the rhythm of the heart and if needed delivers a shock to restore a normal rhythm. They can be used with little or no training as the machine gives clear spoken instructions.!

Though we hope we will never have to use it, here at Tring parkrun we'd like have a defibrillator on stand-by. Please help us be prepared!

We have been overwhelmed with everybody's generosity so far and cannot thank you all enough for you donations. I have been researching defibrillators and it looks like we'll be able to purchase the iPad SP1. This particular device was chosen by the British Heart Foundation under the government funded public access scheme. Designed for defibrillator novices, the iPAD SP1 Fully Automatic is suitable for use in all conditions and is small and compact enough for easy transportation. The cost of this device is £1,104.00
