Story
The Borough currently has two books of remembrance which list all those who died during World War Two, however little has been done to keep our official memorials up to date since 1945. We would like to rectify this by producing a third book with the names of all the men and women from Barking and Dagenham who have died on active service, serving their country, from World War Two onwards.
The new book will be of the same quality and standard as the existing books of remembrance, produced by professional bookbinders and calligraphers. Once completed it will go on public display alongside the existing two at Valence House Archives and Local Studies where everyone will be free to visit when they can.
A team of volunteers at Valence House are currently undertaking thorough research to ensure that we are able to add the names of all who have given the ultimate sacrifice.
We will have the project completed in time for Remembrance Day 2018 when it will be unveiled to the public.
Your support is invaluable in allowing the local community to come together to remember their fallen heroes.

6 years agoWe've had fantastic support from the public so far in producing a new book of remembrance for Barking and Dagenham. The dedicated research of our volunteers has uncovered 159 names of service personnel from the borough who will be added to the new book. The book has been made and calligraphy is underway but we are still fundraising to finish this project off and purchase a suitable display case so the public can visit and view the book of remembrance. Thank you
