Kerry-Anne was a local girl, having grown up in  and Pinner, a former pupil of St John Fisher, Nower Hill and Weald college.  She was an extremely happy person and loved life and, at age 30, was entering an exciting period with many wonderful plans.  However, during the early hours of 27 November 2008, Kerry-Anne collapsed for no apparent reason and was taken from us.  Kerry-Anne was seemingly healthy, though we later discovered she had suffered a cardiac arrest as a result of Myocarditis, one of a number of conditions classifed under the umbrella term of Sudden Death Syndrome (SDS).  Kerry-Anne was very special to us, and, as you can see, very beautiful.  No words can describe how much we miss her.

SDS can be completely distinguished from what we generally understand to be the normal cause of a heart attack, namely coronary heart disease (often associated with smoking, and more prevalent in older people).  In contrast, SDS is the result of a heart abnormality, either acquired or, more commonly, an inherited condition.  Though, if identified through screening (see CRY initiatives below), it is possible to save the lives of those with such conditions, either through surgery (e.g. through the use of implantable cardioverter defibrillators) or appropriate lifestyle management.  For instance, the Chelsea football squad have been screened through CRY as a precautionay measure to protect their players (in Italy, screening is a requirement for all professional sportspeople).

Hundreds of young people die unexpectedly of heart defects every year.  CRY works to raise awareness of Sudden Death Syndrome () and campaigns for proactive screening of young people.  It offers help and support to those who have suffered a loss, provides medical information, carries out Mobile Cardiac Screening and ECG Testing Programmes within local communities and contributes to medical research.  For more details, please visit the following links: http://www.c-r-y.org.uk/ and http://www.c-r-y.org.uk/philips.htm

A death resulting from SDS will inevitably mean losing someone special, someone close and someone around which life plans had been built.  This special someone may be a baby, child, adolescent or someone in the prime of their life and this, combined with the unexpected nature of the death (providing no time for any preparation or goodbyes), possibly makes this form grief one of the most deeply painful for a family to experience.

How can you help?

We would be very grateful if you would help us to support CRY by coming down to enjoy The CRY Football Fives Live Music event, having a 10 minute browse of the website and, most importantly, please help us to raise awareness of SDS and CRY by forwarding this webpage onto your family and friends (it is this specific individual action that will benefit CRY the most and will have far reaching consequences - a few minutes of your time is all that is required).  If you feel you are able to make a small donation to Kerry-Anne's CRY Memorial fund through this webpage, this would also be greatly appreciated.  This will help prevent others families from having to experience the deep pain caused by the loss of a young loved one.

Finally, we would also like to remember two young local lads, who tragically lost their lives as a result of Sudden Death Syndrome:

- James Markham a talented young musician from Ruislip who died, at age 21, in November 2001 (http://www.c-r-y.org.uk/markham_my_story.htm), and;

- Martyn Simpson a former pupil of Hatch End who grew up in Harrow, though at age 24 collapsed in a pre-season football friendly at Broadfields in August 2004.  The Simpson's organised a CRY charity football event at Broadfields for 5 years in Memory of Martyn.

Both the Markham's and Simpson's have received support through CRY, and continue to help CRY as much as possible.
