Why your donation matters
We exist to address disadvantage in Cumbria to keep communities strong, growing and sustainable through the distribution of grants, to encourage philanthropy and to be a leader among third sector organisations. Our good working relations throughout the county contributes to our level of knowledge, professionalism and renown.
We have distributed over £16 million in grant aid and have run emergency appeals, the 2009 flood recovery fund gave out grants in excess of £3 million. Groups and individuals are able to access funds quickly and easily.
We truly believe that our motto: connecting people who care to causes that matter -enables those who donate to know that their donation really makes a difference to the lives of those in need throughout the county.
Case study: donations in action
Carlisle Mencap received a grant of £4,484 to run a pilot programme of activities for disabled children, their brothers and sisters and friends.
Two groups were initially set up. The first focussed on social activities for four girls with profound learning difficulties and or physical disabilities. The second group involved twelve young people in sports in sports and social activities. It was important that the activities took place in community venues and with the involvement of people of all abilities.
Both clubs have helped the young people become more confident. Mencap have now created a permanent programme as a result of this grant.
