My story

My campaign focusses on a single event, the annual London-to-Brighton Bike Ride, to be held on Sunday 17th June 2012.  I hope to lead a group of intrepid Curriers on this 56-mile ride from Clapham Common to the seafront in my home town of Brighton.  The Bike Ride is organised by the British Heart Foundation and a proportion of the money that I collect will go to that major charity.  However, the real object of my appeal is the Nia Project in Hackney, which provides a safe and supportive environment for women and children who are escaping physical, sexual and emotional abuse. At least 1 in 4 women experience domestic violence in their lifetime and between 1 in 8 and 1 in 10 women experience it annually. Less than half of all incidents are reported to the police and a domestic violence incident happens every 6-20 seconds in the UK.  The vast majority of the victims of domestic violence are women and children, and women are also considerably more likely to experience repeated and severe forms of violence and sexual abuse, regardless of ethnicity, religion, class or age. You can read more about this small but hugely deserving charity at www.niaproject.info

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are completely safe – they’ll never sell them on or send you unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. It’s an efficient, secure and convenient way to donate, so please dig deep and act now.

Thank you,

Richard Stewart
