In 1908 the Royal Engineer Signal Service was formed and was the first military unit to engage motorcycles as a form of communication. The Dispatch Rider was born. to commemorate this, four serving Royal Engineer soldiers - Major Pete Spilsbury, WO1 Richard Little, SSGT Dave Castle and LCPL Gaz Taylor will be riding some 2500 miles around mainland Britain. This will involve over 70 hours actual riding time on the current in-service motorcyle - 350cc Harley Davidson Enduro motorbikes. Our aim is to stop at the four 'corners' of Britain, at:
North Foreland - South East (Kent)
John O'Groats - North East (Scotland)
Scourie - North West (Scotland)
Lands End - South West (Cornwall)
We have given ourselves just 12 days to complete our epic tour - which is roughly 6 days up the east coast and 6 days back down the west coast, starting (and finishing) at RAF Odiham.
On the 30th April at the end of the ride, we have planned a post Exercise celebration (on soft seats) by holding an autcion of motorcycle equipment in order to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support who dedicate their lives to helping those people in need - emotionally, physically and mentally - not only of the sufferers, but also their family and friends.
