Elizabeth Brown (aka Wheels of Addis) and I (aka Wheels of Gimbie) are planning to cycle at high altitude across Ethiopia in order to raise money for the worthy cause of Maternity Worldwide in February 2010. The charity works to develop and improve access to maternity services in an area of the world where the risk of dying in pregnancy is one in 14, in comparison to a risk of 1 in 3000 in developed countries. Projects include providing skilled maternity staff and establishing a fund to help those least able to pay for care
This small efficient charity has made a huge impact so far and I am aiming to raise £2,000 to help continue the work at a time when life conditions are at risk of worsening again as a result of prolonged drought.
