Last year I cycled from Glasgow to Southampton via the towns and cities most effected by asbestos to raise money for research into asbestos diseases and ito raise awareness of the need for a National Centre for Asbestos Related Diseases (NCARD). I met many amazing people who suffer from asbestos diseases and their families, so many tales of strength and courage. This has inspired me to get back on my cycle again to raise funds for 2 of the asbestos victim support groups who campaign for justice for victims of asbestos diseases, provide them and their families with vital welfare benefits advice, raise funds for research into asbestos diseases and so much more. The support groups are Asbestos Action Tayside and Greater Manchester Asbestos Victims Support Group.
My cycling odyssey starts in June with the Norwich 100 followed by the Trossachs Ton which takes in my namesake Loch (Katrine) and then the Devon Coast to Coast. It ends in September when I will cycle around the mouth of the Tay. I will then by putting my feet up for the winter!
