Why your donation matters

When I was not quite two years old, Mummy saw my eye glow white. Doctors said my eye had cancer. Mummy simply wept.

The only way to save my life was eye removal surgery. The doctor sent us to Daisy Fund who help children just like me.

There my mum had time to talk with folks who understand, who explain and answer questions. They let her cry and held her hand.

Daisy Fund trained my nurse in special “child life” play. She helped me cope at hospital, and chased my fears away.

At the Daisy Fund pathology lab, they looked inside my eye, and found the cancer had not spread. Now it’s tears of joy we cry.

Case study: donations in action

Doctors in Botswana said 5 month old Rati’s white eye was nothing to worry about. Her concerned parents sought another opinion in South Africa. Cancer was confirmed 4 months later, but removal of Rati’s eye was delayed by another 2 months. After surgery, doctors declared her cured.

Rati’s cancer relapsed 19 months later. With no hope of cure in Africa, her family turned to the web for help. The family of English Rb survivor Daisy Lloyd helped fund expert care in Canada. Sadly, this gift came too late, and Rati died in August 2006, aged 4.

Many opportunities to save Rati’s life were missed. She set us the challenge of improving care to prevent tragedies like hers. This is the mission of Daisy’s Eye Cancer Fund.
