I aim to row a MILLION metres by the times the Olympics arrives!!
A strange target it may seem so I'll explain why. I'm a school teacher and recently we acquired some concept 2 rowers. The coaches who came in told us about several things including their awards schemes, the highest of which is 1,000,000 metres, they also said they had never given this award out. Despite my detest of rowing machines (which is growing by the metre I would like to add!!) The challenge was set in my mind to hit the milestone, and whilst doing something like this it seemed to make sense to do it for charity.
Being a Rugby player I wanted to work with a rugby related charity and was recommended to look at Touraid. Touraid is an organisation which initially focussed on rugby but is expanding to other sports. The premise of it is that they take children from disadvantaged backgrounds from abroad and organise sporting visits to the UK. The host clubs or organisations in this Country are also supported and since the conception of Touraid some deep and strong links have been forged.
A number of high profile people in the rugby world have given credence to the good work that Touraid does and are supporters and ambassadors for this good cause.
I'm asking you to sponsor me to complete these 1,000,000 metres, I have a logcard which monitors my lifetime metres which started on the grand total of 0 metres. It's a long way to the finish line, I'm not asking for anyone to row with me or even for me, as the website name suggests all you have to do is JUST GIVE!
Thank you for all and any donations and PLEASE encourage others to look too.
