I have decided to run the 2010 Bupa Great South Run in Portsmouth on the 24th of October. The course covers 10 miles, winding its way around Southsea and Portsmouth Harbour, passing such sights as HMW Victory and HMS Warrior.
The event attracts an average of 21,000 runners! I am hoping not to be last!!
I am running to raise money for the John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation. Lt John 'JT' Thornton RM, from Ferndown, Dorset, was tragically killed, aged 22, in southern Afghanistan on 30th March 2008. This charity has been founded with the simple objective that John wanted as his legacy: to encourage and assist young people to 'climb as high as they can dream'.
The charity awards annual grants, scholarships and bursaries to advance the lives of, and help, young people who are studying at Ferndown Upper School, are members of the Air Cadets' Dorset & Wiltshire Wing, or who are members of the Air Cadet Junior Leaders' Course.
I am hoping to raise £150, but would love to exceed this target. All donations will be greatfully recieved and will go to help provide people with the opportunity to fuffil their dreams and attain their true potential.
This run will be a great challenge for myself and i cannot think of a better charity to raise money for, and is a great way to honour a great friend and allround great guy!
Would love if you could make it to the event and cheer me on!
Many Thanks
Dan Dorrington
