Thanks for visiting my fund raising page. On 23rd May 2009, I am going to attempt The Iron Horse Bicycle Classic in Durango, Colorado. It will I believe be the most difficult physical challenge of my life and the event for which I have been the most comprehensively prepared. This challenge will dwarf the London Marathon.
The Iron Horse Classic is a 50-mile bicycle race against a steam train. To beat the train, starting at 7,000', I need to cover the distance, climbing 5,700' through two mountain passes, in 3hrs 30. I have been training 4x a week since November, but I will still have to have the ride of my life to beat the train.
This is another event to raise money for St Clare's Hospice, where my sister-in-law Shirley died. The staff there does not do fancy things like I do - when the last two weeks of cancer patients' lives are upon them, they accompany them, and their families, on the painful and often degrading journey to their death.
