Having suffered from arthritis for a number of years I recently had a hip resurfacement operation which has greatly relieved the amount of pain I was experiencing.

During the early weeks of my recovery I was confined to crutches and walking sticks to help with my progress.I became very aware of the large number of permanently disabled people that you see in public,many in wheelchairs and obviously suffering great pain and discomfort...and that's just those who are not housebound or in care.

I was hoping to be fit enough to play some golf this coming summer...pain free for a change...however the opportunity to raise funds for the arthritis care charity and give something back to a worthy cause gave me an idea............................

I have invited some golfing friends from various golf clubs around Edinburgh to a 'round robin' challenge using  some golf promotional vouchers I have acquired.

The more vouchers we use, the more donations we collect.

Along with some other fundraising ideas I'm hoping some cash will start coming in by March.....

........June update........

So far we are steadily raising funds thanks to the participation of a few golfing chums who have regularly taken part in the three bookings I've been arranging each month since March.

Raising £3000 by December now seems a bit ambitious..however I intend to extend the fundraising attempt for a further year as I am donating all amounts raised offline to the Arthritis Care Branch at 'The Hollies' Day Centre in Musselburgh where funds are needed to provide an annual coach trip for its members.So far we've raised £250 offline for them which was greatly appreciated by their committee.....so we will keep trying to help them out as well as donating to the Just Giving account.

The 'summer' golf season is nearly at an end so this is a good time to thank the 'diehards' who have taken part in outings over the past six months...

Weather conditions may interrupt our efforts over the coming months but we'll certainly give it our best 'shots'!!!

We've raised a further £250 offline for the Hollies Arthritis Care Branch in the last couple of months and hope to add to this in the near future and in total we are a third of the way towards our target of £3000....so any other donations will be greatly appreciated....
