My story

Thank you for visiting our fundraising page which has been set up in memory of Dan James.

Our fundraising page was originally set up for 16 of us to raise money by running the London Marathon.

We were then joined by Tom Morgan who successfully completed the London Triathlon earlier this month.

The latest member of Team DJ is Bob Lang, who is taking part in the Great North Run in September.

Bob plays rugby for the Worcester Wanderers, the amateur(some might say old fashioned) side of the Warriors, and he has kindly asked that all monies that he raises in Dan's memory be donated to Spinal Research.

Bob plays with several people that knew both Dan and his Dad Mark, through their connection with Worcester Rugby Club over the past 20 years,so we would like to wish him all the best for September 20th,pass on the thanks of all of Dan's family and friends, and ask you to support his efforts as generously as you can

If you are visiting our page for the first time,we have explained below how your kind donation will be used by Spinal Research.

Following the tragic circumstances surrounding his paralysis in March 2007, and his subsequent death last September, Team DJ has been formed to run this years London Marathon in Dan's honour.

Our team is made up of family, friends and some people that had never met Dan, but all of whom are motivated by a combination of love and respect for a wonderful young man. Our aim is to raise as much money as we can , in Dan's name, for Spinal Research. It has been agreed that all the money we raise will go to a designated area of research.

This means that having been kind enough to make a donation you know that your money is going to an area of research chosen by Dan's family. The specifc project you will be donating to is work being carried out by the University of Birmingham into repairing chronic spinal cord injuries, as Dan and the majority of paralysed people have suffered.

The aim is to re-awaken dormant nerve cells using proven treatments, making new connections between brain and body, resulting in movement and feeling being restored. Successful results could lead to treatments that would make a fantastic difference to the quality of life and expectation of the 40,000 people already paralysed in the UK and the 800 new patients, many of them young and active like Dan, who will join this number each year. It would be extremely rewarding to think that our efforts, and your generosity, would perhaps be able to give long term SCI sufferers some hope. If we are lucky enough to exceed our target amount we have the opportunity to support further relevant research.

Since Dan's death many kind words have been written and spoken about how he was such a loyal and loving young man. He was that and more to all that knew and loved him and now 16 of us are going to attempt to run 26.2 miles in his memory and maybe even take a little bit of Dan's character with us. Be it his sense of adventure to attempt it in the first place, the strength and determination to get round or the winning smile when we finish. Dan had them all in abundance.

We are immensely proud to be running in Dan's memory but your donation today could help one of your loved one's in the future.
