Hello!

I've been thinking of different methods to raise money for my gap year, and I came to the conclusion that skydiving would be a suitably dangerous, thrilling and spectacular way of getting sponsorship.

What happens when I skydive?
First of all I will have a twenty minute training session on the ground, after which I will be taken up to 15,000ft in a plane. Once that altitude has been reached, I will proceed to jump out the plane and freefall towards earth for about a minute at 120 miles per hour. After which I will deploy my parachute and sail down to solid ground.

Why am I doing this?
I have recently booked a place on a ten week expedition to Costa Rica and Nicaragua with the charity Raleigh International.
The trip is costing £4,000 altogether, of which £3,000 goes to the actual charity Raleigh International, as opposed to funding my trip. And will then be used to improve the lives of young people from all walks of life, as well as making a difference in developing countries.
I have also got myself a job to help fund the trip, which means I am able to contribute substantially towards it.

What will I be doing in Costa Rica and Nicaragua ?
The ten week expedition is split into three phases. Community, environmental and adventure.

Being the second poorest country in the Southern Hemisphere, Nicaragua will host the Community phase. In this phase another Raleigh International volunteer and I will be staying with a family in a village, whilst working on a project that would be both worthwhile and sustainable for the country and its people.

The Environmental phase is set in Costa Rica. Due to 60% of its national park network being unchartered one of Raleigh International's main objectives is to charter areas and make it suitable for people - making paths, building bridges etc.

The final phase is the Adventure phase, also in Costa Rica. Which will see me pushed to my limits both physically and mentally. Previous projects have seen teams trekking 250km through Costa Rican wilderness, where another group trekked from coast to coast.
