My story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. Please dig deep and sponsor me and my friends online.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospital Charitable Fund will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

My son, Daniel Lee Marler, was born with a serious heart condition called ‘Double Outlet Right Ventricle with a large Ventricle Septal Defect’. Unfortunately, due to the magnitude of the condition, the surgical team were unable to carry out a complete repair, however, as a result of a series of operations over the last eighteen months, the team have redesigned Daniel’s heart to provide him with a healthy circulation which is near normal. Daniel is recovering well from his surgery in April and appears to be responding excellently to the overall procedure.

Daniel has been fortunate enough to be treated by a leading heart surgeon, and an outstanding nursing team at the Royal Brompton & Harefield NHS Trust in London. My wife and I, and indeed our nation, are very fortunate to have this level of care available to our children on the NHS. As such, I feel compelled to try and give something back to the Trust which has saved Daniel’s life, and given him hope for the future.

For each operation that Daniel endured, he was cared for on the ‘Amanda Jones’ ward being the paediatric intensive care ward, and thereafter on ‘Rose’ ward being the day care ward. Although the NHS provides a substantial budget for these wards, the sum is quickly utilised due to the high numbers of children that are treated for either heart or lung conditions during the year. My objective is to raise money for these wards to contribute towards new medical equipment, and a variety of items for the children to make their stay at the hospital more comfortable.

The final sum of sponsorship will be donated to the Royal Brompton & Harefield Charitable Fund, which is the NHS Trust’s registered charity (1053584). However, I am pleased to advise that the sponsorship raised will be re-directed to the PICU Trust Fund, which is a restricted fund within the hospital, and the administrators will ensure that the donations reach the aforementioned wards.

So please sponsor us now!

Many thanks for your support.
