Thanks for visiting my just giving page.
I ran the Edinburgh marathon on 22 May to raise money for Reaching the Unreached (RTU). I finished in a time of 3 hours 16 minutes and 3 seconds. No pb this time, but the main thing is the money raised. Thanks to everyone who supported and sponsored me I really appreciate it. There is still time to donate.
If I can ask for two minutes of your time to let you know a little about RTU.
RTU is a charity based in a G. Kallupatti, Theni District, Tamilnadu, south India. It is truly an amazing place, I have been fortunate enough to volunteer on construction projects in 2006 and 2008; so I saw firsthand the excellent work RTU does.
RTU’s mission is to respond to the needs of the poorest people in the surrounding remote villages, providing health care, low-cost housing, clean water, support for the elderly and schools. Children are at the heart of RTU’s work, especially those who have been abandoned, rescued from abuse, or orphaned. Increasingly children are losing parents to AIDS, and some are HIV+ themselves. RTU’s four ‘Children’s Villages’ provide homes for over 600 children, living in family groups of 6-8, with a foster mother. RTU supports these children through to adulthood and independence.
RTU is a charity that is very close to me. Having been on several volunteer projects in the developing world I can honestly say that RTU uses all donations effectively and makes a massive difference to so many impoverished people, regardless of their health, age or religion. It truly is a remarkable organisation and I would be really grateful for any donation you can make. Running the Edinburgh marathon won’t be easy but with your support and sponsorship it will all be worthwhile.
Thanks.
David
