Story
Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.
In May last year my closest friend of some 40 years, Ray Hart, tragically lost his beautiful three year old daughter, Evie. As he and his family went through the trauma of Evie's final days, they were extremely grateful for the love, care and support given to them by the Demelza House Hospice in Sittingbourne.
By way of a big thank you to Demelza House, Ray recruited a group of friends to help him raise at least £15,000 to donate to the hospice - I am proud to say I was one of those friends! So, on Sunday 3rd May 2009, our team cycled from the new Demelza Hospice in Eltham SE9 to the Demelza Hospice in Sittingbourne.
By completing the ride we have raised over £27,000 for the hospice and I should like to thank you so much for supporting our team's quest - and, yes, the padded shorts worked a treat!! All 12 riders stayed together for the gruelling journey and we covered the 47 miles at an average speed of about 14mph! Not bad for a team of cycling novices!
Our fundraising efforts mean that the hospice have sufficient funds to employ a full-time care assistant for one year (at a cost of £15,000) and the further monies raised will be used on projects to make the lives of the young children and families they care for, just a little more comfortable.
(Next year I’m told we are going to try London to Paris!!! Watch this space!!!)
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Demelza, Hospice Care for Children gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
