L'Arche builds communities with people who have learning disabilities. Together with assistants, they live in ordinary houses, with choice in and access to work, therapy and local resources. The nine L'Arche communities in England, Scotland and Wales are founded on Christian values, also welcoming people of other faiths and none.

My story

The fund is to be used towards the building or purchasing of a L’ Arche home, either in Scotland or overseas, to be named in Father David's memory, so as to provide a tangible and enduring memorial to Father David that will be of real benefit to adults with learning difficulties.

A new L’ Arche home in Scotland would cost several hundred thousand pounds. This is a massive challenge but then Father David himself was never afraid of such challenges. As Administrator of St Mary’s Cathedral he commissioned the building of the new organ, one of the largest in Britain, and the new hall and the Cafe Camino. In his “leisure” time he cycled to Rome, walked the length of the Pyrenees and climbed all the Munros. If those of us who knew Father David give with the same generosity as he gave his love to us, then no target should be unachievable.
