My story

The launch of the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation has provided a group of overweight, beer drinking Newcastle United fans from Wylam with the ideal opportunity to get on our bikes and raise some funds for an excellent cause.  The Foundation is looking to raise £500,000 to help fund a specialist unit for the early detection of cancer.

We are cycling 146 miles from Whitehaven to Tynemouth over the weekend of 11th July 2008 and we are looking to raise £5000 . We would like to see sponsorship coming in from fans of as many different clubs as possible(please add your club in the comments section when making your donation).  We would 'love it' if we could get some money from Man United and Sunderland fans.

True Geordie Grit

I am pleased to report that the boys successfully completed the C2C.  A broken wrist and broken collar bone could not stop this lot from completing the event.

Dave 'Handlebars' Handyside was the first faller four miles outside of Whitehaven, when asked why he continued with a broken wrist he stated "the pain in the wrist was nothing compared to what the p:ss take would have been if I hadn't of completed the ride".

Derek 'Saga Lout' Henderson was the second faller on a fast down hill section, a tree stump cushioned his fall. Thankfully the tree stump is OK, but Saga was left a little confused (more to do with his age rather than the fall) with a broken helmet and broken collar bone.

Both of these boys have shown true geordie grit and set the benchmark for next years event.  No excuses for not finishing.

There's only one Peter Beardsley

England and Newcastle United legend Peter Beardsley helped to increase our funds by holding a Talk In at the Black Bull in Wylam.  Peter held the crowd's attention for 1 hour and forty five minutes, that's an hour forty two minutes more entertainment than Sunderland fans got all of last season.

On the night we raised a very impressive £1500, a big thank you must go to Pedro, Kevin Bell for arranging Peter to turn up, John 'the auctioneer' Anderson (former Newcastle United legend) for getting people to part with their hard earned cash during the auction and finally Paul Bowes for allowing us to take over his pub for the night.

Wylam Brewery Tie Up Sponsorship Deal

Wylam Brewery are pleased to annouce that they have won the race to become the Wylam Wheelers shirt sponsors for the coming season.  The team picture shows the team proudly wearing the new eye catching kit.  I am not saying that the shirts are bright, but it has been reported that Stevie Wonder likes the design.

Replica shirts are available from all good sports shops and some rubbish ones.

Fans Hall of Fame

Fans of the following teams have donated so far - Newcastle Utd, Leeds, West Ham, Stockport County, Sunderland, Everton,The mighty Birtley Vigo (Sunday Morning Team) and some team called Manchester United.

Where are the rest of you?

Congratulations

We are pleased to announce that both Ian Driver and David O'Halloran have successfully completed their C2C.  Congratulations boys let me know when you are walking normally again.

Lord Lucan Rumours

We have had unconfirmed rumours that Lord Lucan (aka Paddy Stevenson) was seen riding his bike through the back lanes of Northumberland.  Anybody with further information is asked to contact the police.

Big Daddy Borat

Big Daddy Borat has been complaining that his body hair is slowing him down during our regular training sessions.  We haved helped him out by suggesting that he gets his body waxed before we start the C2C.  Of course this will be done as a means of raising further funds for the Sir Bobby Foundation.  Date and Venue for the body waxing will be confirmed.

Sue - The Fourth Emergency Service

Over the last two weeks we have stepped up our weekend training sessions by getting in some longer rides.  Unfortunately,  John 'Billie The Kidney' Eyeington has made rescue calls to his wife to come and collect him.  If you are ever in a situation where you need to dial 999 you will now be offered four services Police, Fire Ambulance or Sue.

WHAM IN AC/DC SHOCK

Dave Handyside first training session saw him turn up looking like a cross between a Thompson Holilday Rep and the fifth member of Wham.  The training session took us to the sun kissed resort of Consett.  Unfortunately, the conditions turned wintery and the local mountain rescue team were called out.  The leader of the rescue team recognised Mr Handyside from AC/DC tribute band riff raff and asked him about his attire.  Dave responded with the shock news that he was leaving AC/DC to join Wham.  On a positive note, Wham are due to commence their Club Tropicana World Tour and Dave has provided us with a pair of tickets for the Consett, Ebchester and Rowlands Gill gigs to give away in our competition.  To enter the competition please provide us with a donation and leave your comments as to why you think we should give you the tickets.

Will J Diddy make the C2C?

One of the team is struggling to make the whole event as he would rather go and see Ken Dodd with his girlfriend, he knows how to show a girl a good time.  When making your donation please feel free to add comments regarding his decision.
