My story

The Eagles Have Landed (safely thank goodness!).

The jump took place on Sunday 2nd August.  The divers were really lucky that it was a fine day and there were plenty of breaks in the clouds.

David says: "It was the most high octane, adrenaline fuelled, pumped up, scary and exhilarating experience of my life but definitely one which I would love to do again!! The plane took us up to 15,000 feet and when the door went up and I stood on the threshold of the abyss, it was then that I truly started questioning my sanity.  All I could think was what AM I doing?  But there was no turning back.  The first few seconds after you jump from the plane are totally surreal and you simply cannot take in what you are doing. All you can hear on the way down is the air rushing past as you plummet to earth at 120 mph and drop the first 10,000 feet in around 55 seconds.  It was weird going through the clouds as you couldn't see a thing and the temperature dropped noticeably.  At about 5000 feet, my instructor, Chris, pulled the rip chord and the 'chute flew open and pulled us both back up.  The remainder of the descent was the exact opposite of the first part.  It was much slower and silent and we were totally in control - I even steered the parachute. I've been absolutely buzzing with excitement ever since and I'm so glad that we each got a DVD of our dives made to remember every moment of what was a fantastic experience (for me at least)".

Debby says: "I don't like it".

"One in a Million" is a Bradford based charity, set up by Wayne Jacobs, the ex-Bradford City defender and current coach.

The charity was set up 7 years ago and today works with more than 750 young people, most of whom originate from areas that have been indexed in the top most 1% deprived areas in the whole of the UK.  OIAM runs sporting activities, creating safe environments and giving participants the opportunity of gaining social and educational qualifications for later life.
