St Ann’s Hospice is here to help and support people through one of the most difficult times of their lives.

Hospice care is based on the simple idea that a person who has a life-threatening illness or is dying is still very much a living person, with unique physical, emotional, social & spiritual needs. At St Ann’s Hospice, our aim is to help people maintain their dignity and maximise their quality of life. We’re not just focused on our patients either: we recognise that it’s also a difficult time for relatives, carers and friends & that they may need support too.

All of the services provided by the hospice are free of charge and around two thirds of our funding comes from donations and fundraising events – that means we have to raise £16,000 a day to provide our services.

My story

Thank you to everyone who helped support us all for the marathon, we raised just over £3,500 (online £841.00) offline almost £2700!!!!!
We really do appreciate all your support, a special thank you must go to Manchester City Football Club for their very kind donation of £500, thank you David Chell.
Since the marathon we have carried on training a little, although John has been injured. We did the Manchester 10k – Mike 54 mins, Dawn 49 mins, we are off to to run a half marathon on 1^st June with our good friend Stefan Schumacher and then a little rest until Macclesfield Half in September. Copious amounts of alcohol has been drunk as I am sure you can imagine in between.

We are all members of Sale Harriers, Manchester and have been running together for just over a year. In that time we have become good friends too. John and Mike have never run more than just over a half marathon so its serious stuff for them. I ran it last year and know what it entails!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ouch!!!!!!!!!

The training is tough, you have to be committed both mentally and physically.

We have chosen to raise funds for St Ann’s Hospice in Heald Green, a very worthy cause indeed.

Well not long to go now – the last longish run has taken place:

Wilmslow half marathon John – 1.58, Mike 2.03, Dawn 1.47, a few more evenings with the Harriers and swim/sauna here and there.

A tactical meeting this weekend and then lots of sleep and good food and much less wine – DAWN!!!!!!!!!!

UPDATE
Thought I’d give you a mid term report on the training –

We all ran the Trimpell 20 miler last Sunday in Morecambe, it was tough!!!!Results John 3 05, Mike 3 29, Dawn 2 50

It was essential we did it to benchmark, we are on course for London but need to up the mileage, very difficult when we all work such different hours.

We have a few more races coming up, Partington 10k this weekend and Wilmslow half later in the month.

So wish us well please, we mean business
