Around 10 years ago I signed up to the Anthony Nolan register of Stem Cell donors. I never really thought it would come to anything but now on the 3rd and 4th July I am travelling to London to donate stem cells.

All I know is that a young adult female with a form of blood cancer needs my stem cells. For integrity reasons the donor is not allowed to know any more than this. This procedure will hopefully save her life as she fights cancer.

The procedure is not particularly pleasant, although luckily I don't have to have the Stem Cells taken out of my hip bone marrow (it comes from my blood). Anthony Nolan pay my expenses, including train fares, a hotel stay, daily meal allowance and obviously the medical procedures. The charity are more than happy to do this but all in it costs around £2000. I am hopeful that with the help of my friends and family I will be able to raise at least some of this amount to pay the charity back and help Anthony Nolan to keep doing this life-saving work.
