Hi everyone, I’m back!
On the first day I have to be honest I thought I wouldn’t make it, it was a 75 mile day. But the hills were just too huge! And one after another! I will post pics up soon!
When we eventually got to Dover we had to wait around a few hours for the others to get there and then get in the ferry into caulis.
When we got to Calais it is a bit like Tilbury docks! And our mood was low especially with the hotel it was not the best either. Both I and Adie were thinking we had made a big mistake and that maybe we should not have done it! Especially as the next day was 80 miles and meant to be the hardest with the steepest hills!
On day two it started wet, windy and cold but they day got better. About 20 miles into the ride I got three punctures in ten minutes! I couldn't believe it! One at the water stop after a MASSIVE! hill and one just down that hill, then another just down another hill! By this time we were right at the back and waited for the mechanics. After this last repair I didn’t get anymore! But the day was very hard but we made it and realised that we could do it! .... It felt easier than the previous day for some reason????
On day three we woke up to big winds, now on a bike this is your worst enemy. The winds were 20 mph + usually we would be making progress of 15,20mph with no winds. On this day we were lucky if we hit 10mph
It was so hard and used so much more energy! The water stops seemed to take forever to get too and it was another very long 80 + day with hills with very sore muscles and a sore bum!
On the final day, my birthday I got a great reception by the other 130 riders. It was 60 + miles on this day and I knew at the end of it my family and my girlfriend were going to be there! And that we would ride round the arch de triumph and up the chance de lease a day before the tour de France!
It was hard going as with the previous days winds my muscles were spent form the extra effort. The previous day should have been easy but due to the wind and rain it was not. Amway the last day was hard but amazing when we could see the Eiffel tower for the first time about 20 miles out! When we got into the city it was great fun driving with the French traffic..... Crazy drivers! But people were clapping us and beeping their horns and gave us such a buzz!
We had one puncher on this day and but us back about half an hour, compared to over an hours on day two! We got to the Louvre and waited over an hour’s for everyone to get to the meeting point. Clapping and cheering when everyone was there.
One we were all there as one big group we cycled around the arch de triumph around the chance de lease and to our finish! The Eiffel tower!
It was harder than I thought but I copped better than I thought I would!
Considering at day one I was ready to come home, by the end of it I would recommend it to anyone! It was amazing and very hard but well worth it.
So far between everyone we have raised £230,000 for Christian aid and everyone in the 90 countries they work in.
Thanks for your b day msg! Just got home from my London-Paris bike ride! 300 miles and I made it!!!! Can’t believe it! It was hard bit I coped better than I thought I would
