I AM TREKKING ACROSS THE ROOFTOP OF AFRICA FOR STREET CHILDREN IN AFRICA!

In November 2007, I am trekking 80km through the Simien Mountains of Ethiopia to summit Ras Dashen at 4543m in aid of RETRAK!

I would very much appreciate it if you sponsor me online & help street kids in Africa! Your support will enable RETRAK to help more street kids discover their potential to live productive lives.

In Uganda, street kids are known as 'Buyaaye' - which means 'street-rats' or literally 'vermin'. RETRAK has proved that with the right care & approach these kids can be helped to realise their potential, discover their worth & discover an alternative to living on the streets. Initial contact is made through football training, feeding programmes & medical clinics. But the real aim is to help kids return to their families if possible. Where there's been abuse or the family is unwilling or unable to have the child back, RETRAK finds new families through their foster care scheme.

Children are helped to go back to school, learn new skills or, for older ones, to start their own businesses. Over 500 children have found sustainable lives off the streets through RETRAK's work. RETRAK have programmes in Uganda, Kenya & now Ethiopia.

In Uganda, for example:
£10 will feed a boy at the "Halfway House" for 2 weeks
£30 will pay for one term at primary school
£50 will cover the annual costs of following up a resettled child
£100 will pay for a months treatment at the medical centre
£450 will cover the entire cost of setting up a business venture to give a livelihood to one or more young men
