The Marathon des sables (Marathon of the sands) is a 6 day ultra marathon, typically around 254 km (156 mi), which is an equivalent to 6 regular marathons. The longest single stage is up to 84 km (52 miles) long. All competitors must carry all their own food and equipment. It has been the feature of TV documentaries on the BBC, as well as more recentley featuring in Jack Osbourne Adrenaline Junkie. It is also shown on Eurosport each year.
It is considered the toughest foot race on Earth.
I am taking part in the 23rd edition of the race from March 30th 2008. I am running on behalf of the Blackfriars School Fund. Blackfriars School is a special school of 200 young people from the age of 2 to 19 with a range of physical, learning, medical and sensory needs.
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. Please dig deep and sponsor me online. I am funding the cost of the MdS training and event personally, so please be assured all sponsorship money will go direct to Blackfriars School.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Blackfriars School Fund will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
So please sponsor me now!
Many thanks for your support. Follow my training progress at www.desertrace.co.uk
