Devizes to Westminster Canoe Marathon · 27 March 2009

WellChild is the national charity for seriously ill children. Thousands of children live with complex medical needs. Many spend months, or years in hospital because there is no support enabling them to leave. We exist to give these children the best chance to thrive: at home, with their families.

Story

Thanks for visiting our fundraising page.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor us: WellChild gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

This good friday 18 students from Kelly College will be beginning the 125 mile canoe marathon from Devizes to Westminster that will then be taking up the rest of our easter weekend. Paddling an average of 31 and a quarter miles every day, the race has 77 portages with the first 52 miles along the Kennet and Avon Canal, the next 55 miles are on the River Thames and the final section is on the tidal portion of the Thames.

As well as paddling after each day we will be camping with all the other crews before getting up at a ridiculous time to paddle again!

We will be paddling in double racing kayaks and have been training for this since september training on mondays, as well as the recent 5am starts and getting only every-other sunday off for training

We are trying to raise money for Well Child. This is a charity that helps ill children and their families with their everyday lives when their sickness is due to accidents or extremely bad illnesses. Your support will be invaluble to this chairty.

Thank You from all the crews
