In June this year I'll be climbing the highest free-standing mountain in the world for ChildReach.

Kilimanjaro

I don't know as much about this expedition as I should but here are a few titbits that I've learned about 'Kili' mainly because they're useless facts that people keep trying to scare me with.

  • Kili stands at 5,895m above the surrounding land

  • ...less than 2,000m below ‘The Death Zone’ – the point where humans cannot physically survive.

  • Apparently, we’ve decided against the easy route.

  • Temperatures range from 35C at the bottom to a rather nippy -20C at the summit.

  • I’ll be visiting such pleasant locations as the ‘Ice Barrier’ and ‘Lava Tower’.

  • The summit is well above the altitude at which severe (frequently fatal) forms of altitude sickness kick in.

It does sound a little scary but if Chris Moyles managed it I fancy my chances. Ultimately, it's all for a great cause.

ChildReach

The little blurb somewhere on the left will tell you about the sort of amazing work that ChildReach do. Of course, it's hard to find a bad charity (50 Cent's “G-Unity Foundation” gets closer than any based on name alone) but ChildReach aren't the sort of charity that get the same sort of exposure as others. This is a small charity that are working at the grass roots level in places where larger organisations have forgotten. Here's how much of a difference your donation could make:

  • £2 pays for a mother and child living in a remote area of Nepal to attend a health camp and receive life-saving vaccinations

  • £5 allows an orphan in Tanzania to attend a vocational training Centre, allowing them to work towards a recognised qualification

  • £50 buys exercise books for a primary school in Uganda

  • £400 pays for a water pump to be installed in a village in Africa so children can get clean, safe water.

Please give what you can.

Thanks for your support.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: ChildReach International gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
