About The Disabilities Trust
The Disabilities Trust provides many and varied services for adults with autistic spectrum disorders, acquired brain injury and physical impairments.
The Disabilities Trust offers short and long-term care to people with profound autism. Its staff seek to understand each individual's needs, ways, anxieties, abilities and aptitudes. It then aims to reach out and create an environment in which they are likely to flourish.
The Disabilities Trust supports around 150 adults with profound physical impairments throughout its seven services across the country. Each service provides accommodation and support matched to the needs of the individual with all its services emphasising choice and flexibility.
Across the UK, The Disabilities Trust supports more than 240 people with acquired brain injury, through assessment, rehabilitation and support.
Brain injury can be the result of a car crash, accident, stroke, assault or disease. The effects of acquired brain injury can include the loss of memory, lack of judgement, awareness, hostility, disinhibition and other inappropriate behaviour.
Rehabilitation can have a profound effect, enabling people to re-learn skills and change patterns of behaviour, so they can contribute in the wider community. In simple terms, The Disabilities Trust helps people regain as much of their independence as possible.
