Arup are entering a team of 6 engineers to take part in the 2008 British Red Cross Challenge, held on the last weekend of March. Only a few days to go! The Disaster Response Challenge is a unique two-day event exclusive to the British Red Cross. It provides an opportunity for participants to experience firsthand the issues and decisions faced by the British Red Cross Emergency Response Unit (ERU) – something that only a handful of people get to experience in a lifetime. Built around a hypothetical disaster that unfolds in real time, the Challenge will severely test the team's ability to stay calm and think practically in highly challenging conditions. The Challenge is run by British Red Cross staff including experienced members of the ERU, and experts in Disaster Response logistics. In order to take part in the event, we must raise at least £3000 to benefit the work of the British Red Cross. As the world’s largest humanitarian organisation, the Red Cross can respond within hours to global crises and their rapid intervention often prevents major disasters from turning into full-scale humanitarian catastrophes. Just as importantly, they also stay behind once the media spotlight moves on to help communities recover and rebuild their livelihoods. Many serious crises do not receive any media coverage at all. Yet the Red Cross is always there. We will need all the help we can get to raise the £3000, so please give generously! To contact any of the team, send us an email at disasterresponsechallenge@gmail.com Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: British Red Cross will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
So please sponsor us now!
Thank you very much for supporting us and the British Red Cross.
