On April 26th I will run in my first ever Marathon, the London Marathon. Becoming a first time marathon runner in my 50s may not be a wise step, but it is for a good cause. A few years ago I was invited to get involved in the charity Action on Addiction, and became Chairman a couple of years ago. The charity addresses the scourge of drug and alcohol addiction. We fund research to find better treatments, provide both residential and day-care treatment, provide tailored support to families, and train counsellors in conjunction with the University of Bath. Addiction is a very difficult topic for which to raise funds - too many people believe the addicts "have only themselves to blame", while the costs to the economy and society are easy to forget. Our charity needs every penny it can get to make a difference, to the addicts and to the society in which we all live. Please sponsor me as I attempt to complete the 26.2miles of the marathon.
