Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: The Donkey Sanctuary will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
In the Debre Zeit area of Ethiopia there are a staggering 76,000 working donkeys. Many suffer harness wounds caused through ill-fitting tack and excessive loads.
Each year, our overseas clinics provide veterinary treatments to thousands of these working donkeys. With your support, we can continue to provide free veterinary care to these special donkeys who act as a crucial lifeline to their families. We also offer welfare advice to donkey owners.
Ababu, a 50 year old grandmother of four, trekked for over 2 hours with her donkey to reach our clinic. Her donkey needed treatment for a painful back sore. After receiving veterinary attention, Ababu received a free therapeutic saddle for her donkey to take the pressure off the wound whilst it healed, thereby allowing the donkey to continue to work. Like many families, Ababu is so dependent upon her donkey to carry food and water that she simply could not afford to allow her animal to rest during its recovery.
Our clinics overseas need continual supplies to ensure the health and well-being of working donkeys, including:
- Veterinary drugs to help treat harness wounds and infectious diseases like tetanus
- Worming medicines
- Surgical kits including forceps and scalpels for administering treatments
How you can help
Any donation you feel able to give towards our overseas appeal, will help to fund our work overseas, such as running our veterinary clinics and providing treatments for working donkeys.
Thank you.
