My story

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.On the 21st June 2008 a number of us scaled the biggest mountain in the UK Ben Nevis.

Scaled may not be the appropriate term as it was more of a long walk , or stagger as we neared the top. However the trip back down was a great deal quicker as we had discovered an excellent pub at the foot of Nevis.Thousands were raised for good causes and we have decided to make this an annual event.

We have also agreed that Everest may have to be delayed for a year or two.

On our climb last year we were overtaken by a number of climbers who were participating in the 3 peak challenge. As you may be aware this is where you climb Ben Nevis ,Scafell Pike and Mount Snowdon in the space of 24 hours. My fellow athletes and I have decided to set a more realistic target.

Ben Nevis 2008 Snowdon 2009 Scafell Pike 2010

Not quite as impressive as taking 24 hours but much less likely to involve hospital treatment.

Edmund Hilary used Snowdon to practice his climbing prior to conquering Everest although he may have taken a slightly different route to the one we will take.

With everyones kind support I raised  £3454 in 2008 for St Margarets and the target this year is to surpass that fantastic amount. So far this year the tally stands at just over £2800 which is well on the way to my target figure.

We completed our walk on Saturday the 20th June which took just over 2 1/2 hours up and 2 hours back down.

We didn"t hang about at the summit for 2 reasons.

1. It was below zero , raining and with practically no visibility.

2. A load of tourists had just arrived on the train that goes to the top of Snowdon.

Snowdon is  only 0.67424242424 miles high. You would think people would just walk instead of taking the train.

My fellow athletes and I took the Llanberis Path which is 9 miles long (4 1/2 each way) and although not as enjoyable as Ben Nevis due to the weather and lack of visibility had an excellent weekend.

To everyone that has donated many thanks.

I will continue to collect donations over the next few months and with everyones generosity expect to beat last years figure.

This is being done for an excellent cause.

St Margarets have to raise £31000 a week , yes a week ! to provide care for people at a very difficult time in both their and their families lives.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: St Margaret of Scotland Hospice gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

Thank your for supporting the Hospice who do a wonderful job in very difficult circumstances.

Roll on 2010 and Scafell Pike.
