Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page where I am raising funds for Help for Heroes.
First, a word about the charity. We may not all understand or agree with the reasons for some of the current conflicts our brave servicemen and women are fighting on our behalf, particularly when bad news appears to feature on news bulletins on such a regular basis, but Help for Heroes is a totally non-political organisation providing essential support for service personnel who have been injured in the line of duty. With my own son serving in the RAF regiment, it is reassuring to know that such vital support exists.
And now, the running..........
On September 26th, I will be taking part in the first Petra Ultra Half Marathon in Jordan. Beginning on the outskirts of Petra, an ancient city carved into sandstone mountains and elected as one of the 'New 7 Wonders of the World' in 2007, the route takes us down the 1.2km long gorge known as the Siq, past the Treasury, Al-Kazneh (in the footsteps of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade!) and then past the tombs, caves and monuments of Petra itself. The route then leaves the city, heading off into mountain and desert before returning to finish in Petra.
Further details of the run can be found at www.dougrichards.co.uk
