Thank you so much for taking the time to visit my Just Giving page. Congratulations, you made it!
That's hopefully what I'll be hearing on the 26th April 2009, after...um *mumble mumble* hours or so of plodding along the streets of Old London Town. This winter, whilst most sensible people will be curled up with a roaring fire and a hot toddy and dreaming of the white Christmas that we nearly had, I'll be out there in the chill air, pounding out those all-important training miles for the spring-time marathon.
I'm not the world's speediest runner, so I won't be breaking any records - but that's not really the point. Those of you who know me personally will know that I have moderate-severe asthma myself, and it's going to be a huge personal achievement for me to run 26.2 miles. As well as that, though, it will be helping to raise funds for research into asthma for those millions of people country- and world-wide who suffer with this condition. The money raised will also help to fund the Kick-Asthma holidays, Asthma UK's residential holidays for children with asthma, which I volunteer on. The psychological and health benefits that these holidays confer on the children who go on them cannot be underestimated, especially for those whose asthma is at the more severe end of the spectrum.
Although many people live with asthma and it does not trouble them, for a significant number of people it is a daily struggle, and sometimes literally a fight for breath and life. Asthma can kill, and should not be underestimated.
