Story
It's that time of year again - the dreaded "Sober January" - a month when my social life disappears and I basically don't set foot in a pub, restaurant or supermarket drinks aisle for fear of temptation. A month, in fact, when I barely leave the house for fear of accidentally falling into a vat of pinot.
But not this year. This year, I'm becoming a Drylathlete for Cancer Research UK. All through January I’m not going to touch alcohol. Not a drop. But this time I'll be going out as usual and I'll EVEN be throwing in a show week* in the middle of it all, just to add to the challenge. Anybody who has ever been in a show with me will tell you that for me, not drinking during the run will be an achievement of Olympian proportions.
So instead of buying me a drink in the bar after the performance or if you see me in the pub, I’d like you to donate. Every pound helps Cancer Research UK bring forward the day when all cancers are cured.
I’ll be donating my drinking money and if I happen to slip off the wagon, I’ll chuck in an extra £20 to make up for it.
Cheers. No, not 'Cheers'. Not until 1st February anyway.
