At 9:30 on Sunday 11th October I'm going to ruthlessly ignore my body's protestations and force my weedy legs into propelling me around 13.1 miles of central London. I signed up for this partly to accompany my dear sister (who has since discovered she is pregnant and has dropped out, leaving me with nothing but a sweaty mass of strange runners for moral support) but also to support a development organisation that I think are Great.
Practical Action work in Latin America, East Africa, Southern Africa and South Asia and use appropriate (often quite simple) technology in a people-centred way to make people's lives better. In their own words:
"Practical Action has a unique approach to development – we don't start with technology, but with people. The tools may be simple or sophisticated – but to provide long-term, appropriate and practical answers, they must be firmly in the hands of local people: people who shape technology and control it for themselves."
I would really appreciate it if you would consider sponsoring me for my Herculean feat of stamina and willpower and help Practical Action continue their excellent work - thank you.
