In September 2011 i will begin my cycle ride south from the UK and plan to reach West Africa a few months later. There is always the possibility that the route may change but the vision is to head through France, Spain and Portugal then take a ferry across to Morocco and continue cycling across the Sahara to Mauritania, Senegal, The Gambia and Mali.
Ever Since Living in Kwinella in The Gambia at the tender age of 19 and teaching in the village school I have had a deep connection with the place and her people but especially with the Daffee family with home i lived for those life changing few months.
Lamin Daffee set up the Fresh Start Foundation in 2006 to support vulnerable children and communities who are living in poverty in The Gambia with a focus on providing access to education and health care. For more info check them out at http://fsfgambia.org/.
On this journey it will be great to return there and work with their school and recent sustainable forest project nearby.
It therefor gives me so much pleasure to raise funds for their project through this cycle ride. 75% of donations will go to FSF while 25% will support the costs of the ride it's self.
