Eddie - It'll probably be a bit of shock to everyone to get this from me; but no one can be more shocked than I was when I realised what I have committed myself to. Essentially the idea is drag my ever increasing waistline round three marathons in three different cities over the course of the next eighteen months. Starting with the Amsterdam marathon (October 2008), then the Edinburgh marathon (May 2009) and finishing with the Florence marathon in November 2009.
I stated training 15th April with a gentle jog and found that the 'wall' that people talk about coming 20 miles into the marathon came about 500metres from the front door, so its already looking quite tough. Since then I have completed both the Amsterdam and Edinburgh marathons and picked up an extra runner along the way.
Johnny - Driven on by Eddie's determination to achieve this goal and perhaps helped by one too many glasses of wine during dinner blocking out the memory of beeing lapped in the 800m at prep school, I stated my intention to run along side him in his next marathon. This is how I found myself, shoulder to shoulder with Eddie, diving over the Edinburgh finishing line to the Baywatch theme tune pounding in our ears.
I now hope to take part in theHong Kong marathon in February 2010 and one more in China towards the end of 2010.
We'll be doing all this for bone cancer research, a brilliant charity supporting research into a cancer that in 90% of new cases affects teenagers. We would appreciate any help in reaching our target, and any help in spreading word to friends, family etc who you think might be keen to help.
Thanks so much.
Eddie & Johnny
