On 6th September at 7am in the morning I will be doing the Monaco 70.3 half Ironman - the hardest of the 70.3 events on the planet!
This involves 2km sea swim followed by 90km on the bike up 23km of steep hills and then to finish it all a 21km run around the grand prix circuit finishing up a nice steep hill at the casino.
All in all it should take about 6 hours I hope!
I started training for this back in February and have been guided through it all by 9 times British national triathlon champion Richard Allen (www.richardallenfitness.com) who has gone back to racing on the world circuit to raise money and awareness of the foundation.
In light of this I am trying to raise money for Ellis Harriet Clark Foundation (www.ellisharrietclark.org) in memory of Ellis who passed away from bone cancer aged 16 back in June 2008.
In preparation for this I have swum approx 140km cycled nearly 3000km and run nearly 700km since I started on 16th February and have lost 10 kilos of weight in the process.
Four weeks ago I broke my hand but still I am prepared to put my money where my mouth is and so I will start the donations at £500!
We work in a privileged industry and I ask you to give something back that can make a difference in someone else's life. It will be massively appreciated by Billie (Ellis' sister) and her family as they come to terms with the loss of a loved one.
Thank you for your support and wish me luck.
Colin
