Story

MADE IT!!

We reached the top of Europe on September 16 at around 11.30 am Russia time, after starting out at 3 am. Our first attempt, in the early hours of September 14, had to be called off after a few hours due to a lightning storm. Since we were out in the open and carrying metal poles and ice axes (and wearing crampons) it seemed wiser to head for cover!

A big, big THANK YOU again for all your generous donations at such short notice. It was really encouraging to have your support during the long, very cold and exhausting climb. Your donations are going to a very good cause and I am certain many people living with cancer will benefit.

Best,

Sophie

Thanks for visiting this fundraising page.

I plan to tackle the formidable Mount Elbrus in Russia from September 10-17 to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support. My father, Anthony Richard Taylor, passed away very suddenly in late 2008 from oesophageal cancer and my aim is to carry out one fundraising expedition a year in his memory.

Mount Elbrus, one of the world's seven highest summits at 5642m (or 18,150 feet), is part of the Caucasus range. I fly from Moscow to Mineralnye Vody on Sept. 10 and from there it's a 4-hour bus ride to the base of Elbrus. Summit day is on Sept. 14 if all goes well.

In 2009, a team of friends and I climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest peak, to raise almost GBP4000 for Macmillan Cancer. This year I'll be carrying out this fundraising mission alone -- albeit as part of a larger organised group. The prospect is daunting yet exhilarating at the same time and I aim to come back a conquering heroine.

Macmillan Cancer Support is a UK charity that works to improve the lives of people affected by cancer by providing practical, medical, emotional and financial support.

Please support me in a cause very close to my heart. Thank you.
