For most of my adult life I have suffered from a chronic condition called Endometriosis.
Endometriosis affects approximately 2 million women in the UK. For me it has been a chronic and debilitating condition. Endometriosis affected my life life in a number of ways which included:
- Chronic pain - Fatigue -lack of energy - Lack of self esteem - Depression/isolation - Mood Swings - Problems with sex life/relationships - An inability to conceive - Difficulty in fulfilling work, life and social commitments
Due to the severity of my condition, I had constant medical treatment and various major surgical procedures the last being a hysterectomy in November 2007.
Following my recovery, I decided to take hold of my new lease of life and take on some real challenges, resulting in completing various events including 10 km runs, 10mile runs, 1/2 marathon, Duathlon and Triathlon events.
Triathlon has become my new passion and I have decided to set myself the biggest challenge of all:
The IRONMAN TRIATHLON!
The Ironman triathlon is known as ‘The ultimate challenge for all athletes’. I will tackle a 3.8km (2.4 mile) sea swim, 180 km (112.5 mile) cycle and a 42.2km (26.25 mile) run, all in one day
This will be an incredible lifetime acheivement for me.
I would like to take this opportunity to invite you to pledge your support to Endometriosis UK to assist their vital work in researching, providing their much needed support and raising awareness of this condition.
