I am going to Honduras, in Latin America in January 2011. I am devoting a year to volunteering with street children and homeless kids to try and offer them an alternative life and expand their chance of opportunity. I will be working in a shelter that provides the Honduran children with shelter, food, education, love and affection and possibly the beginnings of a life away from crime and 'street' life.
ICYE (International Cultural Youth Exchange) is a charity who helps people like me do projects like this! ICYE is a national registered charity working in the area of youth development. It is part of a Federation of 36 not-for-profit international volunteering organisations which promotes peace, cultural understanding and youth empowerment. The exchange means that whilst I am helping in Honduras for a year, someone from Latin America will have the opportunity to come to the UK and volunteer in one of our poorer sectors - a pretty awesome charidee I reckon!!
I am planning loads of different events to help me raise my target including:-
- Walking Hadrian's Wall in 6 days.
- A Music Night at Woods Wine Bar - 24th July ALL WELCOME
- A recipe book of yummy food with all recipes donated from family and friends.
- Coffee Morning (hosted by my Mum, bless her!)
