Story
Hey Everyone,
Having completed my GCSE’s and now embarked on sixth form life I have decided to take the opportunity to join a ‘Raleigh International’ expedition during the summer of 2009.
I will be travelling to San Jose in Costa Rica for 23 days during the summer holidays. The first part of the trip will be spent training in Turrialba I will then move on with a team of people to either Cabagra, Ujarraz or Salitire where we will be working on a community project to construct small water systems which will supply safe drinking water to the remote communities. Finally with the team I will complete an Adventure Challenge which will include a three day trek and a two day survival challenge along the Brunca Coast and the Marino Ballena National Park before heading home.
As a registered charity Raleigh International require that all volunteers fund their own trip. However they also insist that all students raise the funds themselves and do not try and tap into ‘The Bank of Mum and Dad’! Therefore in order for me take part I need to raise £3500 by April 2009. Yikes!!!!
Raleigh International have been very supportive with fundraising suggestions and I will be taking on various activities making Christmas cards for Mum and Dad, selling ‘Krispy Kreme Donuts’ at school (yum yum), waitressing etc etc. All offers for work considered.
Much to Mum’s horror I have decided to take inspiration from a quote found in the Raleigh International brochure “The Sky’s the limit!”. I will be doing a sponsored tandem skydive from 10,000 feet. I will freefall 5,000 feet and then the other 5,000 will be with a parachute.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Raleigh International gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
Lots of love
