Millions in the UK enjoy the benifits that can be gained from using their own artistic creativity, but there are many for whom this opportunity isn't available. The Escape Artists mission is to empower people on the margins of society, helping them to find a way into the mainstream, realise their potential, increase their self-esteem and develop new skills via the arts.
In the past we’ve run music workshops for people with mental health issues, resulting in a concert at in , and for those who are suffering from degenerative brain disorders, plus drama workshops in homeless centres.
The challenge will see those taking part in this tandem skydive freefall at over 120MPH for several thousand feet, before the parachute takes over and they glide the last mile to ground level.
1 in 6 people will currently be experiencing problems with their mental health. That means that even if you haven't experienced a mental health problem yourself, you almost certainly know many people who have.
Your support is very much appreciated.
Escape Artists work with the Syd Barrett Fund, a charity set up in memory of the late founder member of Pink Floyd, in order to bring our work to as many people as possible. Syd's own mental wellbeing was greatly enhanced through music, painting and photography.
“Because I recognise how important music and painting were to Syd, I want to help other people, who can benefit in the same way from the arts as he did, by providing opportunities for active involvement in the creative process,” Rosemary Breen, sister of Syd Barrett and founder of the Syd Barrett Fund.
