I've been planning my cycling trip to Italy for nearly two years but I finally set off from Reading on Sunday 18th July. I'll be following the Eurovelo 5 route (more or less) through France, Switzerland, over the Alps and then through Italy, reaching my destination - Puglia in the heel of Italy - by the end of August.
The modest target of £390 (it would be great to get more!) is symbolic as it represents 10 pence for each of the 3,900 kilometres of the Eurovelo 5 route (a target of £3,900 might be a little too ambitious!)
I commute everyday from Reading to Henley-on-Thames by bike and, especially in the spring & summer my route is a feast of wildlife. The aims of the BBC Wildlife Fund - to help save threatened wildlife and places in the UK & across the World - will help ensure not just that I have a better chance of enjoying my daily commute, but that communities all over the Globe will continue to be able to support their own local environments and the animals who share it with them.
